24 March 2021 - Today the team of researchers organized by DOST's iSTART program lead by Academician Dr. Alvin Culaba presented to the honorable Palo Mayor Ann Petilla the concept, activities, and timelines of the study that will look for science-based solutions to the flooding episodes experienced in Palo, Leyte and nearby areas. Recognizing the exigency of the problem, the first phase of the study will roll out immediate on 12-16 April this year -- a narrow window of opportunity before the rainy season sets in. This phase is targeted to be completed in 3 months time.

Mayor Petilla expressed her gratitude of this DOST initiative for this aligns with her vision to make the town a safe and business-friendly place, encouraging all concerned institutions to have a synergistic approach to solve the flooding woes.

Also present during the virtual meeting are the members of research team (Dr. Guillermo Tabios of UP Diliman & Engr. Marvin Genoguin of De La Salle), Engr. Joey Gobenciong of DPWH, Palo LGU officials and Councilor Agner, and DOST Leyte (yours truly and Ms. Darlene Lendero).

The meeting was capped with a Closing Remarks from yours-truly, on behalf of our RD Engr. Ernesto M. Granada.
